A new set of $ 1,400 stimulus checks has been sent, bringing the total number of payments made to approximately $ 164 million, or approximately $ 386 billion.

The new payments are the eighth batch shipped since the checks were approved by Congress in March. Payments are up to US $ 1,400 per person and US $ 1,400 per eligible family member if recipients are below certain income thresholds and meet other requirements.

Much of the money sent this round came after the IRS processed tax returns.

More than 585,000 payments, valued at more than $ 1.2 billion, were sent to people who had not previously been registered with the IRS and who had recently filed a return.

This latest batch also contained more than 570,000 “plus-up” payments worth nearly $ 1 billion to individuals who were eligible for new or additional amounts after the IRS processed their tax returns.

The government plans to continue making new payments every week.

It also urges those who don’t normally file taxes to file a tax return this year to receive their payments, including the homeless and rural poor.

The federal beneficiaries are also asked to file tax returns to ensure that eligible relatives also receive their economic benefit. Social Security just released an announcement asking beneficiaries to apply for the refund credit if they missed the first $ 1,200 or second $ 600 checks.
