REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. (Reuters) – US President-elect Joe Biden's legal team in Georgia said Friday they are not expecting a handcount of votes in the state to change the results of the November 3 election.
Democrat Biden, who, according to unofficial results, led Republican President Donald Trump with more than 14,000 votes in Georgia, was declared the state winner by television and news networks on Friday.
With no evidence to show, Trump has complained about widespread fraud and irregularities in Georgia and other battlefield states that he lost to Biden. 306-232-votes-idUSKBN27T0IQ.
"Trump's legal strategy seems to be to deny the inevitable. Ultimately, more people in Georgia voted for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris than Donald Trump and Mike Pence, and there is nothing a census, recount or legal action would do to change that fact, "Democratic Party lawyer Marc Elias told reporters on a call.
Once the recount is complete, there should be no more doubt about the outcome of the state election, Elias said.
The recount, which takes place immediately after a lengthy counting of the ballot papers, must be completed in good time so that the results can be confirmed by November 20th. This schedule was established for tax officials.
Common Cause advocacy group called on Georgia on Friday to allocate more resources to electoral offices. Some of them said the group needed to hire new staff to help exhausted election workers.
The Biden team said it was confident the process would be completed on time, citing a schedule from the Foreign Minister who expects the handcount to be completed on Wednesday.
